Wissahickon Walkers was founded by Scott M. Lewis in 2008. Scott has a BA in English from Temple University and has been responsible for the care of his own cats and dogs since childhood. He currently has two dogs and two cats--all former strays or rescues. The eldest, Ethel the cat, is twenty years old. The youngest, Charlie the dog, is two years old.

Scott has been informally pet sitting and hiking in the Wissahickon Valley with his dogs for the past fifteen years. He worked for three years as a horse-drawn carriage driver and tour guide in Old City Philadelphia, where he learned a great deal about the care and training of horses. He also worked as a medical editor at the National Board of Medical Examiners in University City for thirteen years, where he helped to edit the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination and learned a great deal about veterinary medicine.
